Max Pechstein, Cowering and lying nude
1910, watercolor on pencil drawing
Inv. no. 1995/5/K2, acquired in 1995
In 1906 Pechstein joins the artist group ‘Brücke’ (The Bridge) founded by Fritz Bleyl, Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff the year before – the group is searching for new possibilities of expression. The artists spend the summer of 1910 at the Moritzburg ponds near Dresden and work on portraying nudes in an open landscape.
