Max Pechstein, Coming and going (childhood and old age)
1905, colored woodcut
Inv. no. 1948/32, acquired in 1948
This artwork is considered to be the first proven woodcut created by Pechstein. At that time Pechstein was still studying at the Art Academy; this work – a metaphor of the renewal of life and art likewise – was published as a portfolio under the title ‘Dresden 1905’ twice a year by Theodor Beyers Kunstanstalt, the leading Dresden lithographic printing office in those days, and comprised 14 originals graphics.
