Max Pechstein, Monterosso al Mare
around 1914, reed pen and China ink on paper
acquired in 2018
Together with his old artist friend Alexander Gerbig from Suhl/Thuringia Max Pechstein travels for his first time to the Ligurian Coast in order to find appropriate motifs in 1913. The idyllically situated, remote village Monterosso al Mare offers plenty of them. Besides the picturesque southern landscape the everyday life of the fisherfolk casts its spell over Pechstein; thus he returns several times.
