Pechstein’s first wife Lotte kept a travel diary, illustrated with drawings and watercolors. Providing an authentic source it is of outstanding importance for the academic analysis regarding the artist’s stay on the Palau Islands in 1914 which deeply influenced his whole artwork – particularly as his travel diary survived in fragmented form only and stops before the couple arrived on the island.
